I don't have enough courage. I like to stay in comfort. Do not want to take pain. I am no activist.
Neither I am a pseudo-activist. Posting something on Facebook, sharing , liking does not help. You may have profound anger about the situation of the country. You may genuinely feel about the situation of fellow Indians, the millions who do not have equal opportunity as you or me. You may genuinely want to do something that is going to help. Somehow, anyhow. You do wish well.
I have taught some Muslim girls, from able but unwilling families. Without education and women empowerment, there is no real hope of a better generation. Women prepare the generation. So, I was doing my bit. Donated for school bags and books for children.
Does it help?
In a way it does. Like, posting, sharing on FB. Maybe a little more. I felt like I did something good. Atleast, I tried to do my bit. Somehow, it gives a vent to the unease that builds when we see the kind of society our people have built.
It's no revolution. It doesn't change much. And the reader would be thinking that I am being overly negative.
Profound anger is useless. You are a tool for fanatics who give you hope for development while they are just pushing their agenda. It's not very different from the way poor people are swindled by cons. Cons capitalizes on your greed. These people are capitalizing on you hope.
They have a very vicious agenda. Development, effective administration and Hinduism makes a heady cocktail for most of the people. You tend to ignore the kind of divide it is going to bring. It's as catastrophic to national integrity as we see in Pakistan.
There are a lot of people who want a Hindu Rashtra. I want an open society. Only an open society is going to withstand the test of time. India is multi-ethnic and Hindu Rastra is ill conceived. I don't want anyone to be a secondary citizen just because of his/her belief system. This is our land as we are the majority and you must subordinate, can feed egos but is lethal for a country. Come on dumbfucks, just show mutual respect.
Other options? Why do you read Times of India and believe it? The media mostly is propaganda machine, be it state or anti-state. It's nothing more circus. You can enjoy it but you can't take it seriously.
The media want us to believe diesel price hike was necessary. There is a need to remove subsidy from LPG and fertilizers. The oil companies are loosing (I don't know how) many thousands of crores.
They give total misrepresentation of facts. Hide the amount of taxation on goods. And tell us how important is deregulation of prices.
There is another news item on the same paper in the same space. It talks about tax breaks given to multinationals. That also is "good" for economics. The supply is squeezed it seems, the cause for high inflation and general rot of economy. I used to think that the reason for the misery was the lack of governance.
I can't be in more disillusionment. Its not even a paradox. The common man in one of heaviest taxed countries can't be left out in cold. Deregulation makes sense when there is social security. The govt is sold out to MNCs and their lobbies. Its not that difficult to see when you see how eager our Govt is for Nuclear Power when Japan and Germany are planning to shut it down. We did not even re-think. There is too much at stake.
Its total bullshit and its amazing how many people buy it just because they read a lot of newspapers.
We are a in a hopeless situation where each choice is scarily dangerous.
While most around me have picked their horses and are ready to go despite not really pondering about where it is going, at 28, I am kind of disillusioned!!
