i dont want to comment on publishing a diary but i am publishing it because of its not-so-personal and yet personal & yet public-bent on the content nature.
two events i noticed today. one is Razzak who is a carpenter and another is cricket.
Razzak, is semi-old-aged artist(he is). he came to fix up our rear bathroom door and sofa. came in the morning and after inspection, he said he'll come 2 hours later. i met him yesterday at his workplace. i remember once before i had met him and and he hadn't been interested in our lill work and i had a lill word with him. but this time, i being more diplomatic, greeted him with respect at his workshop. he recognized me immidiately though some people at my place whom i visit regularly were failing this time(year). he came later in the evening. i was finding his behaviour a bit odd. a bit circumspect. he is a fine(and perhaps only one here) worker. i found him a bit unsure. well that was a just some feeling i had no justification of. he was a bit over-friendly then he used to be. soon i found out why. twice he used the word 'Bharat' and 3-4 times he used 'Bhagwan'. now Bharat could be understood (just maybe) as he might be reading hindi newspaper too often(i frankly just guess). but he said 'Bhagwan aaj garmi karvayega'. i immidiately got his point. he was a bit unsure. unsafe. ours is a predominantly Hindu population with very very few muslims. i had some friends in my primary school. 2 girls and a boy. one girl was a bit old and other girl and boy were of same age. this girl was very sharp at studies, boy was average and the old girl(lol, old girl in primary school) possibally studied only till 8th standard. the sharp girl(i mean the sharpest of the lot) who stood high positions at district level was admitted to Govt Girls School in 6th standard. she was friends with my cousin sister(same age) who is remarkably poor at studies. 3-4 years back i came to know that the girl got married(i dont know if she graduated or not but she was a science student for sure i know.) she used to visit my cousin and we had a sarcastic smile when she told us that she had a child. the guy was struggling in 12th standard 4-5 years back. that was the last update about him. but we were very comfortable. not quite like razzak this evening. and i felt very strange when muslim boys of our class in college used to support pakistan. i was something i could not imagine. those 3-4 guys used to share some friendship i guess just because of they are minority-->insecurity. so as i grew old the perception about the religion is changing in my mind.
we were same at primary school. then we went to better school and they made conservative choices. my cousin is still doing fashion designing despite her 'talent'. it seems they live in different world. now increasingly the muslims are getting radical as one can see that very educated and young muslims are taking part in anti-social activities. their increasing isolation (even here) and kind of ghettoisation. the kind of confidence(the lack of) and unsurity i saw today got me thinking for a while. this is a big social move i reckon whose results will be seen once new generation of muslims appears. if razzak is unsure today, i expect his grandson to be radical. and if even that is radical like this, its a worring thing. things change too quickly very often. it seems i think too much. but certainly i didn't like it today. i remember a song which a poor Paki channel plays here..Ye Hum Nahi.. its about terrorism. nice song and when i watched it i though umm.. oo really... Ye Hum Nahi.. i guess thats enough comment on that.
cricket. so india won this time. it always seemed one horse race once 37 runs lead of the first innings and sehwag-gambhir partnership. 250 at max could had been, just could had been chased. although again a late innings collapse but i think it was a one horse race. I always like watching Ishant bowling. the way he bowled to samaraweera and dilshan was remarkable. he was consistently beating them. i saw all 9(if thats right) overs on the trot he bowled to ponting at sidney. and finally got him caught at second slip. thats why i always like test cricket(if its not a flat track). that gives the true measure of the player. thats like XXX rum and one day is like lager beer. like sehwag. such good player and i feel he is at home in tests and one days get too big for him. there he tries to score quick. poor guy. like yesterday, when vaas got sachin. you just cant see it in one dayers or T20.
i always believed the real challenege is to win the series now. given the heavy defeat in first test india played to potential. it is a comprihensive victory. but do they have the fire to win series?? capability-wise they should. but first we should see the track.
SA have won series. pietersen never looked so patchy to me. still he got 94. SA got great new ball attack. i rate them best in the world. India should be rated No2. OZ come third and that is their problem. wait and watch, it'll be more prominent.
